2010 Nissan GT-R

Nissan previously claimed an impressive lap time of 7:29 for the 2009 Nissan GT-R, but the team had a hunch the 2010 car would do even better.

Nissan went back to the Nürburgring with a 2010 GT-R to test what the car can do with five more horsepower, revised transmission programming, and updated suspension. The completely stock 2010 car wearing GT-R SpecV wheels and tires ran an impressive time of 7:27.56, besting the previous record by about 1.4 seconds.

It doesn’t say so in Nissan’s press release, but part of the reason the team went back to the “Green Hell” must have been to prove to Porsche the GT-R really can best the 911 GT2.

The GT-R still hasn’t beaten the Corvette ZR1’s record of 7:26.4. However, Nissan’s Chief test driver and ex-Formula One driver, Toshio Suzuki, said grip was impaired by dust and sand. The team plans to attempt another record run today.
